25th: Create a positive work culture
Dec 18, 2023
Happy employees will be more productive in their jobs. And they wouldn’t look for other opportunities any time soon. As a small business, you want your people to stay for as long as possible, so you don’t have to spend time and money hiring and training new people. For this, you need to constantly remind them how important they are for your business.
Financial rewards are not always enough.
Here are some simple things you can do to build a strong team of committed people:
- Ask employees for their feedback. They can share their feedback discreetly to avoid unwanted attention and rivalries. If anyone has any problem, make sure you promptly resolve their issues. Make sure there are minimum possible conflicts between your employees, so the work doesn’t get affected.
- Promote work-life balance. Do not expect your employees to stretch their working hours without being generously compensated. Give them leaves and let them go on vacations. If possible, offer flexible working hours and remote working as and when possible. Make sure they are in good physical and mental health. Teach time management skills so they can improve their productivity.
- Celebrate your success with them whether it is about a big new project you have got or a new milestone that you have achieved. Make them a part of the celebration. Congratulate them and thank them for their contributions.
- Engage in team-building activities. Have lunches and dinners on special occasions. Celebrate birthdays and go out for trekking. Go beyond work and build a personal relationship with them.
Be a good listener so they feel more confident in approaching you with their problems, demands, ideas, requests, and suggestions.
